Report: White House Voter Call Included Left-Wing Activists

President Joe Biden’s executive order aimed at increasing voter registration was the basis for a video meeting involving left-wing organizations, the Washington Examiner reported.

Internal documents show that a July 12, 2021, Zoom call basically was a platform allowing left-wing activist groups to suggest sweeping election policy changes, the Examiner reported.

The administration has insisted the attendees on the video call were “nonpartisan.”

The Examiner reported Wednesday that documents show administration officials were joined on the call by people including:

  • Jose Morales, former chief of staff for the failed 2022 Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. Listed on the meeting notes as a representative for the left-wing Fair Fight Action.
  • Laura Williamson, a then-employee at the left-wing Demos think tank who now works for the Southern Poverty Law Center.
  • Nikolas Youngsmith, then an attorney for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, which awards scholarships to undocumented students.
  • League of Women Voters lobbyists Jessica Jones Capparell and Celina Stewart.
  • Representatives from the George Soros-backed Open Society Policy Center, End Citizens United, eBay founder Pierre Omidyar’s Democracy Fund, Black Voters Matter, the Brennan Center for Justice, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and other major left-wing activist groups.

In March 2021, Biden issued an executive order that the administration said was aimed at protecting the right to vote and ensuring all eligible citizens can freely participate in the electoral process.

The order mandates federal agencies to develop plans to provide the voter registration services with the help of “approved” outside groups.

GOP lawmakers and conservative groups have scrutinized the legality and constitutionality of the order, which calls for “soliciting and facilitating approved, nonpartisan third-party organizations and state officials to provide voter registration services on agency premises,” the Examiner reported.

There’s a concern the “Bidenbucks” order will unlawfully appropriate federal funds to promote Democrat voter turnout in this year’s general election.

Republicans say the order may violate laws that include one barring federal agencies from spending funds beyond those approved through Congress, and another that restricts government employees from engaging in certain political activities.

“The Biden administration continues to spend taxpayer dollars on partisan voter registration initiatives,” said Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., chair of the House Administration Committee, the Examiner reported.

“Not only is this shady, but it does not instill trust in our elections.”

The Washington Post reported last month that Democrats are becoming concerned that voter registration efforts aimed at minority voters and young people could benefit former President Donald Trump in this year’s general election.
