Biden Gaffe: ‘Elect Me. I’m in the 20th Century’

President Joe Biden on Wednesday accidentally referred to himself as being “in the 20th century” in a comment toward the end of a joint press conference with the prime minister of Japan.

A reporter asked Biden toward the end of the press conference about the Arizona Supreme Court ruling this week that upheld an 1864 law that would ban abortion throughout the state unless the mother’s life is in immediate danger.

The reporter asked Biden, “What do you say to the people of Arizona right now who are witnessing a law going in place that dates back to the Civil War here?”

Biden responded, “Elect me. I’m in the 20th century,” before quickly correcting himself and saying, “21st century, not back then. It weren’t even a state” when the law was passed. Arizona became a state in 1912.

The president later went on to address a question about the war in Ukraine and when it might end, saying, “The war in Ukraine comes to an end by the House leader allowing a vote” on additional aid to the country.
