The #AbandonBiden campaign, started last year by a group of Muslim American activists in Michigan over the president’s support of Israel’s war in Gaza, is calling for protesters to show up in droves to his fundraising event Thursday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

“While Presidents [Joe] Biden, [Barack] Obama, and [Bill] Clinton try to whine and dine donors in New York City, New Yorkers of all kinds have come out to voice their complete rejection of Genocide Joe,” the campaign’s New York co-chair Mosaab Sadia said in a statement, reports the Hill.

“We cannot idly sit by as our president aides and abets genocide in Gaza. The movement to Abandon Biden is only just beginning.”

The fundraiser for Biden that also stars Obama and Clinton is raising $25 million, setting a record for the biggest haul for a political event, his campaign said.

Muslim community leaders from several swing states in December pledged to withdraw support for Biden, citing his refusal to call for a cease-fire in Gaza.

Democrats in Michigan have warned the White House that Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war could cost him enough support within the Arab American community to sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

Leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania gathered behind a lectern that read “Abandon Biden, ceasefire now” in Dearborn, Michigan, the city with the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the United States.

Biden early this month called for an “immediate cease-fire” between Israel and Gaza, and the U.S. on Monday allowed the United National Security Council to pass a resolution demanding a cease-fire for the final two weeks of Ramadan, a move that angered Israel.
