Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is reportedly asking Republican candidates and groups to provide him with a portion of the funds they raise by using his name, image, or likeness in appeals for donations, Politico reports.

In a letter sent earlier this week, Trump campaign co-chairs Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles asked Republican candidates and committees who use Trump’s name or likeness to give the former president’s joint fundraising committee at least 5% of the proceeds from the funds they raise.

“Beginning tomorrow, we ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trump’s name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC,” the letter reads. “This includes but is not limited to sending to the house file, prospecting vendors, and advertising.”

The letter notes that providing more than 5% “will be seen favorably” by Trump and the Republican National Committee. It also provides “guidelines” for vendors to avoid using language that implies a candidate or group represents Trump.

“Any vendor whose clients ignore the guidelines mentioned above will be held responsible for their clients’ actions,” the letter reads. “Repeated violations will result in the suspension of business relationships between the vendor and Trump National Committee JFC. This includes list rental agreements.”

A Trump campaign spokesperson said in a statement that the letter was intended to prevent candidates and committees from misleading donors into thinking they are donating to the Trump campaign.

“President Trump has a distinct and iconic brand that is tremendously popular with the American people,” said spokesperson Danielle Alvarez. “When political campaigns and vendors use it in an unauthorized or unapproved way, it is important to protect small dollar donors who are giving their hard earned money while Bidenflation crushes them and believe they are giving to President Trump’s campaign to save this nation.”
