Juvenile to Take Plea Deal in Brooklyn Day Mass Shooting Case

An attorney confirms that one of the five defendants charged in the Brooklyn Day mass shooting, a juvenile, will be taking a plea deal offered by the State. A hearing to schedule the trials is scheduled for this afternoon. Attorney Warren Brown represents the youngest defendant, a 15-year-old, who faces multiple charges including three counts of attempted murder, first-degree assault, use of a handgun, and inciting a riot. Under the deal, the 15-year-old will plead guilty to first-degree assault and a minor in possession of a handgun charges.

Brown’s client is being tried alongside the 16-year-old defendant represented by John Cox. FOX45 News has reached out to attorneys representing the remaining four defendants. Attorney Michael Clinkscale represents the 17-year-old defendant, the first charged in the investigation, who is being tried separately. Clinkscale confirms the State also offered his client a plea deal, and he has until May 31st to accept the offer. Clinkscale did not comment on his client’s decision. Tristan Jackson, 18, represented by Amanda Savage, and Aaron Brown, 19, represented by Roya Hanna, will be tried together.

During the March hearing, the attorneys heavily disputed the charges and questioned the State’s evidence. Clinkscale questioned how his client is connected to shell casings when he is not charged with firing a weapon. Jackson’s attorney argued there is no video of Jackson firing a weapon and that the defendants cannot be identified in the videos. Aaron Brown’s attorney said the defendants are mere specks in the videos. According to the State, Brown admitted to firing a gun but claimed self-defense.

Cox, representing the 16-year-old, argued no evidence shows his client with a gun and that a riot charge would require intent. He blamed the Baltimore Police Department for their failure to respond appropriately. Brown called the evidence “sketchy” and stated it requires predetermined conclusions. The victims for the charges are unknown, and no one has been charged with the murders of the two people killed in the mass shooting.
