Gunnar Henderson Powers Orioles Past Angels

Gunnar Henderson continued his torrid stretch at the plate, collecting three hits and three RBIs to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. The win came despite Mike Trout becoming the first player in the majors this season to reach 10 home runs.

Leading off for the second straight game, Trout got the Angels on the board with a solo blast down the left-field line off Dean Kremer in the sixth inning. It marked the third time in the past seven seasons that the superstar has been the first in MLB to reach double-digit homers.

Trout’s milestone shot sparked an Angels rally that saw them pull within 6-4 and have the tying run on first with two outs in the ninth. However, closer Craig Kimbrel induced a caught stealing to end the threat and record his 424th career save, tying John Franco for sixth all-time.

While Trout made history, it was Henderson who stole the show offensively for Baltimore. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year is 9-for-20 over his last five games after going 3-for-5 with a solo homer, double and two-run single on Wednesday.

Henderson’s third-inning blast off Tyler Anderson opened the scoring before Adley Rutschman added an RBI hit in the fifth. The Orioles then broke it open with a four-run outburst in the sixth highlighted by Henderson’s two-run single.

Anderson struggled with command, allowing six runs on four hits and four walks over five-plus innings despite striking out seven.

Though staked to a 6-0 lead, Baltimore had to withstand a late Angels charge. Taylor Ward and Zach Neto also homered for Los Angeles, which has dropped five of its last six games.

Kremer was stellar for 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while racking up 10 strikeouts before exiting. The bullpen bent but didn’t break, with Kimbrel working out of trouble in the ninth.

While Trout’s milestone grabbed headlines, it was Henderson’s latest big game at the plate that proved most impactful as the Orioles held off the rallying Angels.
