Nick Mosby’s Campaign Finance Report Raises More Questions After Amended Filing

More questions are surfacing about Baltimore City Council President Nick Mosby’s campaign finance practices after his latest amended report showed an over-the-limit donation.

In an April 18, 2024 amended filing, Mosby corrected previous errors that had listed the Arizona company Paragon Solutions as dozens of donors. However, the new filing reports a $9,281.04 contribution from the Baltimore Gas and Electric PAC – exceeding Maryland’s $6,000 cap on donations.

A BGE PAC spokesperson stated to FOX45 News that the PAC did not donate that large amount, but rather only $450 to Mosby’s 2024 campaign. “We’ve reached out to the state elections board as well as his campaign to ensure that this is corrected,” the spokesperson said.

Mosby’s campaign manager Matt Cramer called the inaccurate BGE donation report an “unfortunate mistake” in a statement to FOX45, saying “We are committed to full transparency in our financial statements and will continue to strive for full accountability.”

These campaign finance issues follow Mosby facing personal financial troubles that came to light during the 2024 mortgage fraud trial of his ex-wife Marilyn Mosby, the former Baltimore City State’s Attorney. Nick Mosby testified to falling behind on bills, not opening mail for long periods, and prosecutors claimed he had “repeatedly committed perjury” on taxes.

He admitted on the stand to lying publicly in 2020 about settling a $45,000 federal tax lien, saying “I lied because I didn’t want my wife to find out.” After the trial, Mosby told FOX45 “I think the voters do trust, and know who I am, know my integrity, they know my character.”

However, a recent poll shows Mosby trailing Councilman Zeke Cohen 21% to 40% among likely primary voters for the council president race, with Shannon Sneed at 17% and 19% undecided.
