Severna Park Elementary Teacher Under Investigation for Allegations from Multiple Students

A third-grade teacher at Severna Park Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland is facing an active police investigation over serious allegations made by multiple students. Matthew Schlegel has been removed from the classroom indefinitely, according to the school district.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department confirmed they are investigating Schlegel but did not provide details on the specific allegations due to the nature of the case. A spokesperson for Anne Arundel County Public Schools also did not disclose how many students are involved or the nature of the allegations against the teacher.

In an email to parents on March 18th, the principal notified third-grade families that Schlegel had been removed from the school. A follow-up email on April 7th revealed an allegation against Schlegel had been reported to the school system’s Office of Investigations. After the initial claim, the principal stated they met with several other families who provided information to authorities.

While unable to share full details, the principal assured parents “the process is proceeding appropriately.” The school is offering counseling services and additional support staff to students during the investigation.

Anne Arundel County Police and the school district have not released any further information as the investigation into the allegations against Matthew Schlegel remains active.
