Fourth Body Recovered from Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse Site

Authorities have recovered a fourth body from the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, according to a news release from Unified Command officials on Sunday.

Salvage teams located what is believed to be one of the missing construction vehicles at the site and notified Maryland State Police. Responding agencies, including the FBI and Maryland Transportation Authority Police, discovered the body inside the vehicle.

The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where they were positively identified. At the family’s request, the victim’s name will not be disclosed by officials.

“As we mourn the lives lost and continue the recovery operation, we recognize each missing individual is someone’s beloved friend or family member,” stated Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., Superintendent of the Maryland State Police. “Along with all of our allied law enforcement partners, we pledge to exhaust every resource and aspect of our training.”

The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed around 1:30 a.m. on March 26 after the cargo ship Dali lost power and struck a bridge support, sending the span crashing into the Patapsco River below.

Two construction workers who were on the bridge at the time remain missing and are presumed deceased. Search and recovery efforts at the catastrophic scene are ongoing.

The tragic incident has drawn a massive multi-agency response as investigators also probe how the container ship went off course in the opening phase of its voyage, resulting in the deadly bridge strike.
