Maryland Releases Key Dates and Ways to Vote for 2024 Primary Election

The Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE) has released crucial voting information for the 2024 Primary Election, including the three ways Marylanders can cast their vote and important deadlines to ensure every voter can exercise their right to vote.

“It’s never too early for Marylanders to learn about the three ways to vote in this year’s primary election and make a plan to vote,” said State Administrator Jared DeMarinis. “Whether voting early in person, voting by mail, or voting at their local polling place on Primary Election Day, I encourage every Marylander to familiarize themselves with the important election deadlines to ensure their voices are heard.”

Three Ways to Vote:

  1. In-person early voting
  2. Mail-in voting
  3. In-person voting on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, May 14

Important Deadlines: Vote Early In-Person: In-person early voting begins Thursday, May 2, and ends Thursday, May 9. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mail-In Voting: Requests for a mail-in ballot via mail or fax must be received by Tuesday, May 7. Requests via email must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 10. Mail-in ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on May 14. If returned by hand, ballots must be at a drop box or local board by 8 p.m. on May 14.

Vote in Person on Primary Election Day: Tuesday, May 14. Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Register to Vote: The last day to register online or by mail is Tuesday, April 23. If missed, same-day registration is available when voting in person with proof of residency. Party affiliation changes must be made by April 23 deadline.

Ballot Drop Boxes: 286 drop boxes installed statewide for mail-in ballots until 8 p.m. on May 14.
