Baltimore Blast prepares to play outdoors at inaugural Spring Classic

TOWSON, Md. – The Baltimore Blast will make history by playing indoor soccer outdoors in their inaugural Spring Classic on Saturday, March 23 at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The unique exhibition event arose from the pandemic-related challenges of finding an indoor venue, according to Blast owner Ed Hale.

“We had COVID, we couldn’t play indoors. We were excluded from it, we could not do it,” Hale explained. “Number two is we didn’t have dates last year because of all the dates that Towson had previously gotten in front of us.”

While originally intending to hold the Spring Classic in 2023, renovations at Unitas Stadium delayed those plans until this year.

By taking their indoor game to an outdoor stadium, the Blast are blazing a new trail as the first professional team to host an outdoor indoor soccer match.

Tickets are $15 per person, with a $30 option that includes a commemorative t-shirt. Free parking will be available, and fans are encouraged to tailgate ahead of the pioneering event.

The Spring Classic allows the Blast to get creative in overcoming logistical hurdles while providing a novel experience for supporters starved of indoor soccer during the pandemic.

Playing the famed indoor game al fresco adds an outdoor twist to the fast-paced action as the Blast aims to kick off a new annual tradition in an unconventional yet exciting format.
