Gov. Wes Moore to join Juvenile Justice panel discussion on FOXBaltimore.com

Three prominent elected officials are set to join a panel discussion on juvenile justice issues that will stream live on FOXBaltimore.com on Monday, February 19, 2024.

The panel, moderated by Armstrong Williams, will feature Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates, and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.

Viewers can tune in via FOXBaltimore.com, Facebook, YouTube, and BaltimoreSun.com to watch the discussion.

The officials will address juvenile justice matters and needed legislation. Prosecutors statewide, including Bates, take issue with current laws.

“I would love to be there on day one with intake to work with police on better cases,” Bates previously told FOX45 News.

For instance, the Department of Juvenile Services has 25 days to refer cases to prosecutors. Another potential legislative change surrounds juvenile probation lengths, which Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Schellenberger recently discussed with lawmakers.

The high-profile panel indicates growing momentum around juvenile justice reforms in Maryland. With top state and local leaders participating, the discussion provides an opportunity to hear various perspectives on changes needed to better serve youth and communities.
