Alternative Background Checks for Uber and Lyft Drivers Approved by Maryland PSC

BALTIMORE (WBFF) – The Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved an alternative background check process for Uber and Lyft drivers which does not require fingerprints.

The approval comes after Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) Rasier, LLC (a subsidiary of Uber Technologies, Inc.) and Lyft, Inc. applied for a waiver of the fingerprint requirement for their drivers, defending their use of commercial background checks as comprehensive and accurate.

While noting that Rasier and Lyft’s background checks “involve extensive efforts to identify criminal history, are supplemented by ongoing safety protocols and updates, and include unique and emerging methods of authenticating the identity of drivers,” the PSC approved a process that incorporates the following additional safety provisions on top of existing methods:
