The Orlando gunman identified himself as an Islamic soldier and pledged allegiance multiple times to a redacted person in transcripts released Monday morning of phone calls made during the June 12 slaughter.
Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded 53 more inside gay nightclub Pulse. He was later killed in a shootout with police.
“Praise be to God, and prayers as well as peace be upon the prophet of God [in Arabic]. I let you know, I’m in Orlando and I did the shootings,” Mateen told a 911 dispatcher during a 50-second phone call in the midst of the massacre.
The Department of Justice on Monday released the first official transcripts of multiple phone calls Mateen made during the bloody attack. Included was a redacted transcript of his 911 call and a summary of three phone calls Mateen had with negotiators.
