American NPR Photographer, Interpreter Killed in Afghan Ambush

NPR award-winning photojournalist David Gilkey was killed in a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan along with interpreter Zabihullah Tamanna, NPR reported.

Gilkey had extensive experience covering conflicts worldwide, as well as such disasters as the Haiti earthquake.

The New York Times reported that Gilkey was the first American journalist killed during the Afghan conflict, although since 1992 there have been 27 journalists from other counties who have been killed there.
