Baltimore police are investigating a shooting scene in North Baltimore.
Five people were shot outside a North Baltimore home during a Memorial Day cookout Monday, Baltimore police said.

 

Baltimore police spokesman Detective Donny Moses said the victims of the shooting in the 500 block of 43rd St. included a 30-year-old man who police suspect was the intended target. He was shot multiple times.

All of the victims were transported to area hospitals, and police said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.  Two other men, ages 25 and 20, were shot in the arm. A 59-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and his 60-year-old wife was shot in the face, police said.

The attack occurred about 3 p.m. during a cookout in front of a two-story rowhouse just east of Greenmount Avenue, when a car approached and one or more gunmen opened fire, police said.

 

“You have people with no regard for life,” Moses said. “It’s disturbing.”

 

“We are in the very beginning stages of our investigation,” Moses said.

 

The number of gunmen was unclear, and police did not discuss a motive. Moses said witnesses gave varying descriptions of the shooter’s vehicle.

 

One neighbor, who asked not to be named out of fear for her safety, ran to her front door when she heard two gunshots. More shots followed, she said. The woman said she saw a navy-blue van “backing up real fast.”

According to police data through May 21, there had been no shootings in the Wilson Park neighborhood and three shootings in Pen Lucy this year. One of those shootings was a homicide.

 

There were five shootings in the two neighborhoods last year, including a homicide in Pen Lucy.
