1-month-old scalded to death in South Baltimore; homicide detectives investigating

Elisha Lynn Watson, born on March 29, suffered burns across 80 percent of her body, according to medical personnel who treated her, said Det. Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.

She was pronounced dead at MedStar Harbor Hospital Wednesday evening.

An officer first called detectives about 6:05 p.m. to advise that he had been called to a home in the 500 block of East Patapsco Avenue in the city’s Brooklyn neighborhood for an unresponsive child and found the baby with severe burns, Monroe said.

At the hospital, the detectives interviewed the parents, who were not identified, and the father said the burning had occurred while he was trying to give the baby a bath, Monroe said.

No charges had been filed as of Thursday evening, but the investigation was ongoing, Monroe said.

She said at the conclusion of the investigation, the findings would be shared with the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if charges are appropriate.

The girl’s family could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday.
