Jason Billingsley Sentencing Expected Today, May Plead in LaPere Murder Case

Jason Billingsley, 34, is scheduled to be sentenced today for two counts of attempted murder in west Baltimore. This sentencing follows his guilty plea earlier this week as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Sources close to the case indicate that Billingsley may also enter a plea in the high-profile murder case of tech CEO Pava LaPere. Billingsley faces first-degree murder and weapons charges for LaPere’s September 2023 death.

The trial for LaPere’s murder was set to begin tomorrow, but courthouse insiders suggest a plea deal may be imminent. The State’s Attorney’s office has not commented on the details of any potential agreement.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates previously stated that Billingsley’s plea in the attempted murder case would ensure he spends life in prison. However, questions about parole eligibility remain.

Recent changes to Maryland law require Billingsley to serve at least 20 years before being considered for parole. Legal experts note that given his criminal history and the nature of his crimes, future release is considered highly unlikely.

The LaPere family is expected to be present in court today. They, along with State’s Attorney Bates, may address the media following the proceedings.
