Voter Alleges Irregularities in Baltimore Primary, Files Complaint Against Election Board

A Baltimore resident has filed a complaint against the Baltimore City and Maryland State Board of Elections, alleging irregularities during the recent primary election.

Will Hanna left the federal courthouse downtown earlier today after submitting his formal complaint. The crux of Hanna’s allegations centers around reports that some voters accidentally mailed in sample ballots instead of their official mail-in ballots.

Armstead Jones, President of the Baltimore City Board of Elections, acknowledged to Fox45 that they did receive several hundred sample ballots through the mail. Jones stated that as these sample ballots were discovered, the affected voters were contacted and informed of their options to properly cast their vote.

However, Hanna is demanding to know the exact number of sample ballots received and whether election officials truly reached out to every single voter impacted by this mistake.

The complaint also raises issues with several voting locations failing to open on time during primary election day, creating potential barriers for in-person voters attempting to cast their ballots.

“We’ve seen problems with the election process over the years, but there’s never been any accountability,” Hanna told Fox45. “This complaint is a measure to hold the Board of Elections accountable.”

While acknowledging the sample ballot concerns, Election Director Armstead Jones seemed unaware of the specifics of Hanna’s complaint when we reached out for comment earlier today.

“Voters have to take responsibility,” Jones stated. “If they had an issue, they simply needed to contact us directly. We maintain all legitimate mail-in ballots here at our offices.”

Despite Hanna’s hopes that the complaint would delay certification of the election results, the Board went ahead and certified the outcomes this morning.

We’ll continue to follow this developing story and provide any updates as the Board of Elections responds to the allegations raised in Hanna’s formal complaint.
