Chaotic Night in OCEAN CITY: Drive-By Shooting, a Stabbing & Accidental Discharge of a Gun on the Beach

OCEAN CITY — A hectic Thursday night in Ocean City included a drive-by shooting, a stabbing and the accidental discharge of a gun on the beach.

On Friday morning, members of the Ocean City Police Department were restricting access to the beach in the area between 81st and 85th streets to allow authorities to canvas the sand for evidence related to a shooting nearby. Dogs were called to the scene to search for evidence and metal detectors were reportedly going to be utilized on Friday.

In that incident, according to Ocean City Police Public Affairs Specialist Lindsay Richard, an individual accidently discharged a gun and then disposed of it on the beach. The individual suffered minor injuries.

“The safety of our residents and visitors is our first priority and until we exhaust every effort to ensure that the weapon is not on the beach, we will keep the beach closed in the suspected area,” Richard said. “Out of an overabundance of caution, officers have been working throughout the morning using a variety of search techniques to locate the weapon. Anyone with information is asked to call our Crime Tip Hotline at 410-520-5136 immediately. We appreciate the patience of residents and visitors as officers diligently work to resolve the issue.”
