AG Sessions: I Would ‘Plead’ With Maryland Not to Become a Sanctuary State

Attorney General Jeff Sessions took a few questions from reporters after making a statement in which he denounced sanctuary policies toward illegal immigrants.

Prior to Sean Spicer’s daily briefing, Sessions said federal funding will be withheld from communities that do not cooperate with federal authorities on deporting illegal immigrants.

A reporter then asked Sessions whether DOJ officials have spoken to officials in Montgomery County, Maryland, after the recent rape case at Rockville High School. 

Two male students, including an 18-year-old undocumented immigrant, are accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in a school bathroom. 

Sessions answered by cautioning lawmakers in Maryland not to officially adopt “sanctuary state” policies. Gov. Larry Hogan (R) has vowed to veto that measure and Sessions echoed the governor’s sentiments.
