Crime Stays High in Baltimore for 2017 So Far

BALTIMORE (WBFF) – So far, 2017 has not proved to be a fresh start for Baltimore.

January saw a big spike in violence and crime almost across the board.

“We know January is always one of our historically bad months, but this is one of the worst ever, and it’s unacceptable,” says City Councilman Brandon Scott.

Looking at Baltimore citywide crime data, year to date from Jan. 1 to Jan. 28, shootings are up 110 percent in Baltimore, with 88 this year compared to 42 last year.

Carjackings are up 107 percent. There were 56 carjackings up from 27 in January 2016.
