NAACP President Cornell William Brooks is calling on Donald Trump to apologize to Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., after the president-elect sent tweets blasting the civil rights icon for calling him an “illegitimate president.”
Not a chance!
On Friday, John Lewis told NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd he believed that the Russians had delivered the election to Trump and robbed Hillary of the presidency. Lewis also said he planned to boycott the inauguration.
Donald Trump hit back with a flurry of tweets aimed at Lewis:
“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!”
Many liberals and a few “Republicans” expressed outrage over Trump’s tweets, accusing the president-elect of attacking a “civil-rights icon” on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“Ahead of #MLKday2017, let us remember that many have tried to silence @repjohnlewis over the years. All have failed.” – Nancy Pelosi
“@repjohnlewis knows true sacrifice. @realDonaldTrump has no clue. When cluelessness collides with power oppression results. Resistance! – Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn.
“It’s telling, I’m afraid, that Donald Trump treats Vladimir Putin with more respect than he does John Lewis.” – Bill Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard
RINO Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., actually begged John Lewis to attend the inauguration. Sasse tweeted, “To John Lewis, one of my heroes: Please come to the Inauguration. It isn’t about a man. It is a celebration of peaceful transfer of power.”
It’s amazing that these people are offended. Trump is telling the truth about John Lewis. Lewis’ metropolitan Atlanta district covers predominantly black communities. The FBI’s latest crime report ranks Atlanta as No. 14 for violent crime in the nation!
Conservative Review gives John Lewis a Liberty Score of “F.” Lewis supports high taxes. He is against the Second Amendment. He supports open borders and amnesty – which hurts blacks the most.
Lewis has a 100 percent score from NARAL on his “pro-choice” voting record. Lewis supports partial-birth abortions; he also voted against a bill that would make it a criminal offense to harm or kill a fetus during the commission of a violent crime. According to the CDC, black women have the highest abortion rate of any ethnic group, with 483 abortions for every 1,000 live births!
Last week, John Lewis testified against Sen. Jeff Sessions, Trump’s nominee for attorney general. Lewis proclaimed, “We need someone as attorney general who’s going to look out for all of us, and not just some of us.”
What a hypocrite! Like the opportunist Cory Booker, Lewis is on record praising Jeff Sessions. He even linked arms and marched with Sessions on the 50th anniversary of the Selma march…………….
