Let’s Comfort, Not Judge, Parents of 2-Year-Old Nebraska Boy Snatched by Alligator

When I woke up Wednesday morning, the first thing I saw on my phone was a text from my mom with a story about a 2-year-old Nebraska boy snatched by an alligator at a Walt Disney World resort.

At the time, I couldn’t bring myself to open the story and fully read it.

I have a 2-year-old son. All I could think of was, “My God. What if that had been Sam?” When he woke up, I hugged him a little bit longer. I studied his face and his smile. I thanked God that he’s healthy and here with me.

I can’t imagine what this family is going through. To top it off, people on social media have been ridiculously harsh toward the parents.

“When are people going to learn common sense?” one person said.

“This was so unnecessary. Just obey the signs,” another offered.

Really? Do you think these parents intentionally left out common sense when it came to their precious baby? Did they intentionally ignore signs? There was a sign that said “no swimming,” and the family wasn’t swimming.

The boy was on the edge of the water.
