Police: Boy, 12, Stabbed in the Back by Suspected Robber at Bank

SAN LEANDRO — A 12-year-old boy is expected to survive after being stabbed in the back Monday morning during a robbery at a Wells Fargo Bank branch, police said.

The boy, who was from out of town and staying with relatives in San Leandro, was allegedly attacked by a 32-year-old woman while sitting “peacefully” in the bank, police said.

The woman was arrested, although no information on her identity or why she stabbed the boy were released.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m., when the suspect entered the bank at 1298 E. 14th St. demanding money. She allegedly robbed a customer who was making a deposit at a teller’s window, and police said she then went over and stabbed the boy three times in the back.

Lt. Robert McManus said that the 12-year-old told officers it felt like he’d been punched in the back when the stabbing occurred.
