Baltimore County Starting on Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial

TOWSON, Md. (AP) – Baltimore County has begun construction on a memorial to honor area servicemen and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Officials broke ground Sunday for the memorial at Baltimore County’s historic courthouse in Towson. It is scheduled to be dedicated in November.

The memorial will be a large, rough stone representative of the stone in Iraq and Afghanistan, and soldiers’ names will be etched onto it.

The Baltimore County Monument Commission has been working several years to raise about $100,000 for the new memorial. State officials have pledged $75,000 in matching funds.
