Loretta Lynch Visits NC Weeks After Filing Federal Civil Rights Complaint Over Transgender Bill

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch spent Tuesday in North Carolina. Two weeks after filing a federal complaint against the Governor and state officials because of House Bill 2, Lynch stopped in Fayetteville as part of a national tour recognizing community policing.

As Lynch and the Department of Justice (DOJ) work to promote community policing, it’s the administration’s fight for LGBT rights that is front and center with legislators in Raleigh.

During a news conference with reporters, the questions centered around the court battle about HB2.

“We brought that suit because North Carolina chose to pass a law that sadly sanctions discrimination, and it was inconsistent with ideals of federal laws that govern many institutions that are named in the lawsuit, and inconsistent with the values of the people of this great state,” Attorney General Lynch said.
