MSNBC host Chris Matthews compared having non-white ethnicity to being physically handicapped Friday while interviewing Dr. Ben Carson.
Matthews asked Carson, a former 2016 Republican candidate who endorsed Donald Trump after he dropped out, whether Trump had empathy for people with “handicaps from birth” such as “ethnicity or whatever.”
“Have you ever tried to make Donald Trump more empathetic?” Matthews asked. “In other words, you’ve said, you know, there are some people that’ve had handicaps from birth, whether it’s ethnicity or whatever, or it’s a physical handicap or they’re born into poverty. It’s hard for them to pull themselves up, even in a free society. Does he get it?”
