TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Towson University is reviewing its policies for reporting on-campus incidents motivated by hate or bias.

University President Kim Schatzel wrote in an open letter Wednesday to the campus community that several students have criticized the school’s hate and bias reporting process.

Schatzel says university officials have launched an investigation into an incident in which a student made racist comments and threw coins at an employee of a campus cafe.

Schatzel also says other incidents involving racist behavior have been reported since then.

University spokesman Ray Feldmann said that officials are investigating whether the cafeteria incident violated the university’s code of student conduct.

Schatzel has asked Dr. Santiago Solis, the school’s assistantvice president for student affairs, to lead a review of the hate and bias incident reporting process.
