FREDERICK, MD. A Frederick woman accused of poisoning her 4-year-old daughter to evoke sympathy for herself has been ordered to serve 15 years behind bars. Thirty-three-year-old Wendi Scott pleaded guilty in March to first-degree child abuse for sickening her daughter, poisoning her with magnesium and using syringes to remove blood.
CATONSVILLE, MD. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is debating the proposed opening of a campus ROTC unit. Campus meetings on the proposal are planned for next week, but some critics are already circulating an online petition in protest.
ANNAPOLIS, MD. The Maryland Democratic superdelegates have yet to pledge their support for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. Although none of the uncommitted superdelegates budged publicly after Tuesday's primaries, some say they are getting closer to a decision.

The Baltimore Orioles snapped their five-game losing streak Thursday night with a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Daniel Cabrera pitched a gem, throwing a complete game three-hitter, and Nick Markakis smacked a three-run home run in the victory. The series will continue in Kansas City throughout the weekend.
